In Heat Map marks on a Chart are represented as colors. As the marks heat up due to their higher values a more intense color is displayed.

To create a heat map in Tableau, you need 1 or more dimensions and 1 or 2 measures.

How to Create a Heat Map in Tableau ?

To create a Heat Map in Tableau Drag and drop Order date to columns. Then right clicks on Order Date and select month so that months data is shown. Then Drag and drop Sub-category to Rows.

By Default the mark type is set to Text. Change it from Automatic to Square. If you want you can also select circles.

Now we need two measures. One that will determine the size of the marks and one that will determine the color intensity of the marks. In our case we will use the Sales measure for both size and color. So drag and drop sales to color Marks card and then again drag and drop sales to size marks card.
